Our Martial Arts

Karate

Karate

Karate is a martial art developed in the Ryukyu Islands in what is now known as Okinawa, Japan. Karate can be practiced as an art (budo), as self defense training, as a non-contact sport (kata alone), or as a combat sport. Karate is primarily a striking art using punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes. In addition to open handed techniques, grappling, locks, restraints, throws, and vital point strikes are taught at Pollet’s Martial Arts Centre as part of the Karate curriculum. With an emphasis on self-development, Pollet’s Martial Arts Centre is a traditional karate school, delivering karate classes which focus on the psychological elements incorporated into a proper kokoro (attitude) such as perseverance, fearlessness, virtue, and leadership skills.

Kobudo

Kobudo

Ryukyu Kobudo or Okinawan Kobujutsu is the ancient martial arts weaponry systems originating on the island of Okinawa Japan.Okinawan Kobudo is a Japanese term which can be translated as “Old Martial Way of Okinawa”. It generally refers to several different weapon traditions of Okinawan origin. Traditional Kobudo includes the use of the following weapons: Bo (Cudgel), Sai (Metal Fork), Tekko (Horse shoe), Nunchaku (Horse Bridal), Eku (Oar), Tonfa (Mill grind Handle), Kama (Sickle), Tinbe Rochin (Shield and Short Spear), and Suruchin (Weighted Chain).

Grand Master Toddy has produced over 40 World Champions. If you too would like to harness the power of his proven teaching style, consider taking Muay Thai classes with us.

Boxing

Boxing

Boxing is a combat sport and martial art that primarily focuses on using the fists for striking. Whether you want to become a Champion Boxer, or just wanting to get fit, Boxing classes are great for developing technique and fast responses in addition to complementing a martial arts enthusiasts training regime. Boxing helps to tone and lean down muscles as well as increasing fitness.

Kempo Jiu-Jitsu

Kempo Jiu-Jitsu

Our Master Instructor Hanshi Ian Pollet holds and 8th Degree Black Belt in Kempo Jiu-jitsu.

Kempo Jiu Jisu and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, BJJ, is a contact sport that focuses heavily on defensive manoeuvres, which are designed to minimize the risk of exposure to blows, punches and other physical attacks. Due to its emphasis on grappling moves and ground fighting, it’s possible for a smaller, weaker person to defend themselves against the threat of a much larger opponent. Our Kempo Jiu Jitsu Classes enforce this theory, by helping you harness your core strength and teaching you how to quickly manoeuvre yourself out of a dangerous situation.

Mixed Martial Arts

Mixed Martial Arts

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, including boxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, muay Thai, kickboxing, taekwondo, karate, judo and other styles. Pollet’s Martial Arts Centre offers MMA classes at our Sydney dojos.

Martial arts is great for kids’ attention span, memory retention, coordination and fitness as well as teaching them discipline in a fun and safe environment.

Pollet’s Martial Arts Centre hosts a renowned children’s program, teaching children how to protect themselves as well as helping them to grow into strong, resilient individuals.
