Hanshi Ian Pollet has over 40 years experience in the Martial Arts Industry. He fell in love with the Martial Arts when he was only eight years old. From then he has dedicated his life to it, and has spent many years working towards his lifelong vision “to help the youth learn the philosopy and tradition of the martial arts and shape their character to become the person they have dreamt to become”.

Hanshi Ian Pollet believes that a Martial Artist should never stop or look back – they should keep going forward, creating new things. He lives this philosophy through his travels all over the world, meeting, training and learning from experts in many different disciplines. These travels have seen him in Okinawa, South Africa, America, Taiwan, China, New Zealand, Brazil and Thailand.

Over the many years, Hanshi Ian Pollet has competed amongst the best in the world and has won many State, National and World Class Events. His championship competition winnings included Traditional Karate, Individual Kata, Synchronised Kata, Koshiki, Point Fighting and Self Defense. Due to his Martial Arts Success, Hanshi Ian Pollet was inducted into the Australasian Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 1997, was awarded the Martial Arts Sportsman of the Year – Australia Day Council in 1998 & 1999, Sportsperson of the Year and ISKA Instructor of the Year Hall of Fame both in 2008.

The style Hanshi Ian Pollet has developed is based upon the water principle – the idea that water can fit itself into any glass, just as a martial artist must fit their art and self into any life situation. This syallabus is now taught across his six professional full-time Martial Arts Centres across NSW and QLD, and his many part-time locations across Western NSW.

After several years of preparation, Hanshi Ian Pollet was examined for his 8th Dan in 2007 by 10th Dan Grand Master Professor Barry Bradshaw, 10th Dan Grand Master Peter Morton, 10th Dan Grand Master Dr. Robert Braff and 9th Dan Hanshi Pat McKean. He achieved this goal – his dedication not only to himself and his students, but to his art is something that can only be truly understood by those who set on the path to follow his example.

Hanshi Ian Pollet had been travelling to Okinawa, Japan the birth place of Karate for the previous five years to train personally with the legendary 10th Degree Grand Master Kiichi Nakamoto. In 2010, Hanshi Ian Pollet was graded by Grand Master Kiichi Nakamoto to his 8th Degree Black Belt in Goju Karate & 8th Degree Black Belt in Okinawan Kobujutsu. In 2011, he was then awarded his Master Red Belt embroided by Grand Master Nakamoto, and he was given the position of Oceania Director of the World Okinawan Karate and Kobudo Association.

Martial Arts has truly been a life time pursuit for Hanshi Ian Pollet. His dedication and discipline is evident in his achievements as a Martial Artist.

Hanshi is the Head Instructor and Director of Pollet’s Martial Arts Centre.
